Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center
The Oakland County Animal Shelter & Pet Adoption Center is located at 1200 North Telegraph Road, Building 42E, Pontiac, MI 48341. You can browse their adoptable pets on petfinder, and their shelter hours are as follows:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday
10:00am – 5:00pm
Tuesday, Thursday
10:00am – 7:00pm
Saturday
10:00am – 4:00pm
The Oakland County Shelter also offers dog licenses (no appointment necessary), and is responsible for taking in strays within their jurisdiction.
Michigan Animal Rescue League
The Michigan Animal Rescue League is located at 790 Featherstone, Pontiac, MI 48342. Their adoptable dogs are listed here, and their adoptions are done by appointment once your application has been approved.
Once an application is received our office staff will begin reviewing your information. This process typically takes 3-5 business days, but may be shorter or longer depending on the volume of applications received for that particular animal.
Royal Oak Animal Shelter
The Royal Oak Animal Shelter is is open by appointment to arrange meetings and pick-ups for approved fosters and adopters. They’re located at 1515 North Edgeworth, Royal Oak, MI 48067 and have their adoptable animals listed here.

Pet Adoption Alternative of Warren (PAAW)
The Pet Adoption Alternative of Warren (PAAW) has three Petco locations (Troy, Warren, and Farmington Hills) where dog adoptions are done by appointment.

Adopt Good Karma Puppy Rescue
Good Karma Puppy Rescue is a small, local foster-based rescue in the metro Detroit area. You can find out about their adoption process here, and browse their adoptable pets on their site. They also offer a 10% discount on adoption fees to military veterans.
The goal of Good Karma is to never turn away an animal in need, whether through owner surrender, stray rescue or saving animals from kill shelters and puppy mills. Through generous donations and the hard work of our volunteers, we strive to help animals in need and find them loving forever homes.
